Missing teeth in the centre of your smile can mean you
don’t actually have much to smile about. Replacing
those teeth can give your smile a whole new lease of life.
Whether you are missing just one, several or all of your
teeth determines the most appropriate way to complete your
smile: permanent solutions to fix these problems include
bridges or dental
implants. These solutions not only restore the appearance
of your teeth, but can also make a fundamental difference
to their function.
Bridges are used to complete a gap where only one or two
teeth are missing. The teeth on either side of the gap are
used to support the false tooth. If those teeth are worn,
crowns can be fitted before the bridge is put in position.
Implants can be used anywhere there are missing teeth.
The implant is effectively an artificial tooth root that
is placed into the jaw bone and left for a period of time
to heal and bond to the bone. It can then be used to support
a new tooth or teeth. Sometimes this can be done the same
day as the implants are placed.
Dental implants can also be used to anchor dentures. Two
or more ball joints are fixed to the implants, and the dental
plate is attached.
